But it takes so damn long for the film to kick into proverbial high gear that by the time White’s character hits Brazil I had become totally disillusioned with this story, to the point of boredom. He then sits around a little longer, going through more emotional turmoil: anger, depression, hate – you know, the usual – before heading off to kick arse in Brazil. That’s until he’s told his daugfhter has got into trouble in Brazil. However in reality, at least from my perspective, Falcon Rising features Michael Jai White’s Chapman sitting around on his couch, drinking and contemplating suicide by gun in the mouth. If you didn't see it, or it just didn't play at a theater near you (or you'd rather just watch it at home), the movie is now streaming on Netflix. When Chapman’s sister is brutally attacked while on assignment in Brazil, Chapman flies into Sao Paulo to track down her assailants, quickly entering the city’s seedy underbelly and discovering a world of drugs, the sex trade, corrupt cops, and organized crime syndicates battling for control. The first installment in the 'Codename: Falcon' franchise of movies starring Michael Jai White, titled 'Falcon Rising,' enjoyed a limited theatrical release last fall. ![]() From what I can gather, and courtesy of the films official synopsis, here’s what the film is “supposed” to be about:įalcon Rising – apparently conceived as the film film in a new action-movie franchise – tells the story of former marine John ‘Falcon’ Chapman, a dark anti-hero driven by guilt and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who will destroy himself unless given something else to destroy – a useful weapon-of-last-resort for the U.S. Yes, Falcon Rising is one of those rare cases where I couldn’t sit through the entire movie… And that’s despite trying a handful of times (like MULTIPLE times). In fact I couldn’t appreciate the full running time of this movie at all! For even as someone who loves to rip truly-bad movies apart (other reviewers will tell you its easy to write reviews of really good and really bad movies, it’s those in the middle ground that will get you), I just cannot appreciate this film as even a bad action movie. ![]() For me, Falcon Risingis one such movie… Try as I might, I just don’t “get” this film, and that’s why it has taken so long for me to put finger to keyboard and bash out this review. The driving rhythms of the opening D minor theme portray a falcon on the hunt, followed by a section in 3/4. From his roles opposite Don “The Dragon” Wilson in Ring of Fire and its second sequel Lion Strike, to the first time I watched his starring role as the titular hero in the movie adaptation of Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn, to his directorial debut Never Back Down 2 (a truly under-rated DTV action movie sequel), I have sat through and thoroughly enjoyed a LOT of White’s movies.Īs I found with this flick, sometimes as a movie reviewer you come across a film that – despite it, on paper, ticking all your filmic checkboxes – really doesn’t click with you. John 'Falcon' Chapman (White) is a former Marine driven by guilt and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who will destroy himself unless given something else to destroy - a useful weapon-of-last-resort for the U.S. Stars: Neal McDonough, Michael Jai White, Laila Ali, Lateef Crowder, Hazuki Kato, Masashi Odate, Jazmín Caratini, Millie Ruperto, Daniel Cardona, Jimmy Navarro, Arzoris Perez | Written by Y.T. ![]()

![]() There was little in the way of building materials, so the families dug into the bluffs of the Jordan River for shelter. In 1849, Samuel and John Bennion and several other families moved south crossing the river on the ice in January. The first Mormon pioneer settlers, Joseph and Susanna Harker from England built a log cabin on the west side of the Jordan River in November 1848 on what was called then "the Church Farm" near 3300 South. Spanish and then Mexican land claims remained until the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican War in 1853 and ceded the whole of northern Mexico to the United States including a few thousand Mormon settlers who had taken up residence in July 1847. The whole region was called "Teguayo" and "Lake Copalla" (Utah Lake) appear on maps of Spanish Nuevo Mexico. There are poorly documented suggestions that Spanish missionaries, soldiers, and explorers came through the area beginning in the mid-1600s. Whether the name is his creation or an approximation of something they said is unknown. At least one local settler called these people the "Yo-No'". Early settlers observed small encampments of Ute in the cottonwoods along the Jordan River. A well-used Ute trail wound along the west side of the river at approximately 1300 West which the Ute used in spring and fall. Most of the area was dry sagebrush-covered land without any natural water sources except the Jordan River. In more recent times Ute bands passed through the valley between the marshes of the Great Salt Lake and Utah Valley. A large Fremont settlement on City Creek used the land where Taylorsville is located as hunting and foraging especially along the river. Some of this region's first named visitors were Fremont people who used the area to hunt and gather food along the Jordan River more than a thousand years ago. ![]() Less than five miles (8 km) from Taylorsville evidence of people killing and eating a mammoth have been found. The first (unnamed) people in the region appeared during or after the last ice age on the shores of what remained of Lake Bonneville. Bennion Hill is the eastern end of a wide ridge that rises toward Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains to the west. Like most desert soils, it has little organic material and is hard to work.Ī broad, east-west running ridge called "Bennion Hill" rises perhaps a hundred and fifty feet above the surrounding area. As Lake Bonneville dried up over the past 14,000 years, the salt from the breakdown of rock remains, making the soil alkaline. Lake Bonneville shaped the topography of the area and deposited lake bottom clay and sand. ![]() The inactive Taylorsville Fault has been traced down the center of the Salt Lake Valley. Beneath the surface, Taylorsville sits on more than a kilometer of unconsolidated rock, sand, and clay. The land on which Taylorsville is located is part of an interconnected alluvial plain that was formed by the wearing down of the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains to the east and west. The city officially became the City of Taylorsville during the centennial anniversary of Utah's statehood in 1996. These communities incorporated through a vote of the people with over 70 percent approval in September 1995. The area called Taylorsville today is made up of two historic communities in the central part of Salt Lake County: Taylorsville and Bennion. It is located in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. The city is located adjacent to Interstate 215 and Bangerter Highway. Taylorsville was incorporated from the Taylorsville–Bennion CDP and portions of the Kearns metro township on July 1, 1996. The population was 60,448 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. More specifically, you should call reportFullyDrawn() once the app is able to provide a meaningful experience for customers to start interacting e.g., placeholders elements are rendered while you still load assets in the background, possibly for parts of the screen that are currently not visible. In general, we recommended to focus on the customer experience and not necessarily on the technical view. Keep in mind it can be difficult to identify the correct time to call reportFullyDrawn() depending on the architecture used. This is closer to the state you want to log. When calling reportFullyDrawn(), system_server will register the timestamp at time of reception. You need to call Activity.reportFullyDrawn() since the system_server will only pick the timestamp where the first frame was drawn which is not the state a customer can already start using your app. Note: In order to reliably report this metric, we recommended you review your app’s logs to identify which activities which should be factored in before triggering the reportFullyDrawn(). This value represents your app’s Ready to Use time. Consider the completed loading of all resources and display of views as a separate metric, and manually trigger reportFullyDrawn() to let the system know that your activity is finished with lazy loading. It's good practice to show a progress indicator to keep users' attention if there are noticeable delays when loading remote resources over the network.įor Fire TV and Android apps, “Lazy Loading” is when an app enables the initial drawing of the window, loads resources asynchronously in the background, and updates the view hierarchy. At the RTU point your app has completed all rendering on the screen and content fetched from the remote endpoints is displayed. Time for Ready to Use (RTU) describes the time taken by your app to launch until it is fully drawn on the screen and is ready for the user to start interacting. This value represents your app’s Time to Display First Frame. In Fire OS 5 (API level 22) and higher, logcat provides a value called Displayed representing the time elapsed between launching the process and the completion of drawing the first frame of the corresponding activity on the screen. During this period, your app may draw its background, initiate navigation, load local assets, and render placeholders for the content loaded either locally or fetched from remote endpoint. Time to Display First Frame is time taken by your app to launch until the first frame is displayed to the user. ![]() ![]() ![]() The final shot up the tower lights Damsel Madness. ![]() Defender of Damsels: Shoot up the right ramp to advance the Damsel.Catapult Ace: Shoot the catapult to shoot various items at the castle (Catapult Madness).Patron of Peasants: Shooting the left ramp advances the Peasants and finally lights Peasant Madness.Joust Champion: Shooting the loop(s) advances Joust and finally lights Joust Madness. In order to get to the Wizard Mode "Battle for the Kingdom" one has to achieve the following goals: The game's ramps introduced a patented feature that would prevent a failed ramp shot from draining straight down the middle between the flippers. ![]() ![]() And its not even tied directly to begining of game. Game starts with some HIGHLY COMPRESSED very MPEG-blocky, low quality stuttering 30 fps and seemingly 1280x720p prerendered boring intro, where voice says something uninteresting not even in english and you have to read subtitles. ![]() If i was game director i would fire UI designer and control designer long before game was finished!īut enough with menu, that already gave me bad impression about game, lets begin a new game! ![]() Not just i does not look like UI in original game (which had its own problems with some elements not getting scalled in 4k) and does not have colorful 3d background with main character, its just looks bland and borring, not very stylish, and in addition to mouse dragging torture UI elements aligned so badly that you have to drag mouse an extra mile to interract with them. Lets go to the next bad impression - UI itself. because logic should tell that no sane developer, UI and controls designer should ever create such a bad UI controls, as very 1st playtest with gamepad should show that is bad idea!īut ok, seems like devs hates their customers and want them to be tortured with such controls. ![]() Its a bad and plain stupid trend that happened for couple of years and i think is started with Focus Home interactive games, where some "genius" decided it will be "good" idea to ditch fast and easy gamepad controls of UI and force slow mouse cursor dragging into every UI of every game they released, then this crap was also done by Cyberpunk 2077 on release, but gladly developers from CDPR was reading criticims of such a UI control scheme for gamepad and brough back classic gamepad controls for UI with patches, not 100% however, some UI elements still require mouse dragging, but its 90% better now than it was on release.ĭespite people with gamepad hates when developers do that, some devs keep doing this and has no critical and forward thinking ability to understand even without criticism that such a UI control is absolutely uncomfortable, clunky, slow, and will cause nothing but frustration for gamepad owners! I dont know how and why games still shipped with such UI control. This was a torture from very begining, i did not yet got to gameplay, but i already started to hate game for UI controls. When Aragami 2 came out i avoided it because people was complained that it feels nothing like 1st game.īut today it bought it, after i read there is a classic mode now, and that studio is closing, so game may not be available after a while.īad things started from menu, instead of proper gamepad controlled UI, game welcomed me with FREAKING MOUSE EMULATION on gamepad, and need to drag slow mouse cursor with mini stick to interact with menu. Also i loved that game has mod workshop support and that people tried to recreate Tenchu levels in it. I cant say i loved everything about Aragami 1, i think its stealth mechanics was pretty dumb, unrealistic and simplistic, but at least it had its own gameflow, which if you can turn off basic logic in your head, worked fine, and was somewhat enjoyable, but despite mixed feelings about game play, i loved art style, atmosphere and music, and story seemed interesting. ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() I don't envy for a second the development teams of render engines. Their presentation makes bold claims, most importantly - it will use same scene, lights and shader setups, so you can build your scene in realtime, and then switch to “full fat” Redshift if needed without additional tweaks. edit: going forward, RS (and octane) will be having a realtime version of their render engine - currently named RS RT. Lots of tradeoffs, but 60fps with instances, autolods, realtime vertex-paint effects, deferred decals, foliage, amazing materials system, GPU particles (Niagara), Houdini engine, the list goes on. PS - if it's the speed what you are really after, UE4 is an option too. I am talking here about a non-Hollywood level of visuals mind you, which will require a renderfarm whichever render you chose. RS is VERY responsive, almost magically so - you gotta try it to believe it. As filipw mentioned, if it's the speed you are after, RS will be an option. I've used prman, the latest 22.6, and it's faster/more responsive than Mantra. Renderman 23 release will land on H18 day one (if goes according to plan), so will Karma beta. I experienced both situations, and as I see it highly depends on the number of crashes, issues, slowdowns, restart, doitagain etc / day = the MCAS factor: Machine Crashed Again Shhhhhhhh Raytracers have basically the same featureset from artistic viewpoint, the rest can be done by shading node trickery, every one has some missing features like the fake bevel shader… The question is that after work you go home with the feeling that you hate computers and regret because you chose this profession, or you think that this is one of the best professions that humans ever invented. Dylan Sisson mentioned in the general pesentation that RMan 23 will be available from the release day of H18: They work closely, so if Karma would be better for every kind of project, it would be a strange situation… For me the stability/roboustness (1.) and interactivity/memory efficiency(2.) are the most important things. You can use it right now, and XPU is coming, I guess way before the Karma GPU. Yes, it seems that Karma would make RMan pointless, but Pixar is ahead in time. My 2 cents: A combo package for indies would be the best: Houdini Indie + RMan Indie (exactly same as the non-commercial, just same usage constraints as H: $100k/year max). Let alone Karma will be as native as it gets. Apart from digital doubles (realistic human rendering) I am not sure where it will outshine karma. ![]() Mind you, I don't render hollywood VFX blockbusters, so I can't claim to have knowledge of how it will fare against karma in a typical alien invasion on New York scenario. I was entertaining this idea (of considering renderman as a main render) since I haven't switched to GPU rendering, but now i don't even think about it and will just wait for Karma. Kays, you've been using RS for a while now, i cant seem to see any reason to go prman in your situation. ![]() ![]() Also Karma promises a big speedup, let alone it's own version of GPU some time later. I couldn't find a fake bevel shader out of the box in renderman too, did i miss it? Read through docs, seem to be absent there as well. Also since I was using Mantra I just can't give up on the procedural material networks I am so used to creating, which eats up all kinds of funny business. Pixar guys make an effort to make a good impression, but starting with H18 and Karma, i can not say i am awfully impressed with it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking for more information regarding locksmiths? please read our locksmith FAQ page, where we cover such topics as how much a locksmith charges to security advice.
